The discipline is considered as a preclinical subject for students of first year of medical course, besides the teaching and training of undergraduate M.B.B.S students. The main aim of the department is improving the knowledge of the students in Biochemistry in a clinical oriented manner so that they can apply their knowledge in Biochemistry for patient care.
Biochemistry deals with the structures, functions and interactions of biological macromolecules, such as proteins, nucleic acids, carbohydrates and lipids, which provide the structure of cells and perform many of the functions associated with life. The mechanisms by which cells harness energy from their environment via chemical reactions are known as metabolism.
The findings of biochemistry are applied primarily in medicine and nutrition. In medicine, biochemists investigate the causes and cures of diseases. In nutrition, they study how to maintain health wellness and study the effects of nutritional deficiencies. It also caters to needs of health service by providing clinical laboratory investigations. Numerous routine biochemical investigations are performed in 24 Hours Biochemistry Laboratory to provide medical service to all the people.
In our Biochemistry department, various investigations like Hormones assay, Metabolic Screening, EPP, Chromatography, Bence Jones Protein, VMA, Ceruloplasmin, etc. are performed. It is functioning with 24 Hours Biochemistry Laboratory at Nandha Medical College and Hospital.
Numerous and various investigations like Glucose, Urea, Creatinine, Lipid profiles, LFT, Investigation on various body fluids, 24 Hours Urine Protein, Spot PCR, etc. are performed in 24 Hours Biochemistry Laboratory to provide medical service to all the people who come towards our Hospital.
